Possible Causes
Loose condenser fan blade, Worn condenser fan motor bearings, Loose compressor mounting bolts, Debris in fan shroud
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the disconnect before reaching into the fan area.
- Step 1 – Inspect fan blade: Check that the fan blade is tight on the motor shaft and not contacting the shroud. Tighten the set screw if loose.
- Step 2 – Remove debris: Clear any sticks, leaves, or objects from the fan and base pan.
- Step 3 – Check motor bearings: Spin the fan by hand with power off. If it feels rough or wobbly, the motor bearings are failing and the motor should be replaced.
- Step 4 – Compressor mounts: Inspect rubber mounting grommets under the compressor. Replace if missing or deteriorated.
