Possible Causes
Dirty indoor air filter or evaporator coil, Indoor fan running too slow or not at all, Low refrigerant charge, Blocked air return or closed supply louvers
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the unit and allow any ice on the coil to melt before working on it. Place towels under the unit to catch drips.
- Step 1 – Clean filters:
- Open the front panel and remove the air filters.
- Wash with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely before reinstalling.
- Step 2 – Check airflow:
- Ensure that curtains, furniture, or covers are not blocking the indoor unit intake or outlet.
- Verify that the louvers are open and not stuck.
- Step 3 – Inspect indoor coil:
- With filters removed, look at the evaporator coil for heavy dust buildup.
- If dirty, use a soft brush or a coil cleaner approved for split ACs, following the product instructions.
- Step 4 – Check fan operation:
- Run the unit in FAN mode only and confirm strong airflow.
- If airflow is weak, the fan motor or capacitor (on non-DC models) may be failing and should be checked.
- Step 5 – Call a technician if E8 persists: Persistent freezing after cleaning suggests low refrigerant or a sensor/control issue. A certified technician must check pressures, leak-test, and recharge if necessary.
