Possible Causes

Incorrect supply voltage to outdoor unit, Tripped outdoor overcurrent protection, Shorted outdoor compressor or IPM module, Loose power terminals in outdoor unit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: This error involves high voltage. If you are not trained, limit yourself to visual checks and call a professional. Always turn OFF the breaker before opening the outdoor unit.

Steps:

  • Check breaker and supply: Ensure the dedicated AC breaker is ON and not undersized. Reset if tripped. Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips immediately.
  • Inspect outdoor terminals: Remove the outdoor unit electrical cover. Check that all power and interconnect terminals are tight and free of burn marks.
  • Look for visible damage: Inspect the outdoor PCB and compressor terminals for signs of burning, melted insulation, or strong burnt smell. If present, do not power the unit again.
  • Clear obstructions: Ensure the outdoor fan can rotate freely and is not blocked by debris, which can cause overcurrent.

Important: Measuring current draw and checking for compressor/IPM shorts requires a multimeter and experience. For E5 that recurs after a reset, contact a Hitachi service center for detailed diagnostics.
