Possible Causes

Blocked outdoor coil or fan, Low refrigerant charge causing high discharge temp, Overloaded compressor due to dirty filters and coils, Faulty discharge temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the unit and allow both indoor and outdoor units to cool before inspection.

Steps:

  • Clean indoor filters and coil: Ensure indoor airflow is not restricted.
  • Clean outdoor coil: Remove leaves, dust, and debris from the outdoor coil fins using a soft brush or low‑pressure water spray from inside out. Do not bend fins.
  • Check outdoor fan: Confirm the outdoor fan runs at normal speed and is not obstructed.
  • Ambient conditions: Extremely high outdoor temperatures or blocked hot air recirculation (unit too close to wall) can cause F2. Improve clearance and ventilation.

If F2 recurs: A technician should check refrigerant charge, discharge sensor, and compressor condition.
