Hitachi Insufficient Cooling Capacity / Performance Degradation

Indoor unit blows air but not cold (poor cooling performance)

Possible Causes

Dirty indoor air filters, Dirty indoor or outdoor coils, Low refrigerant charge due to small leak, Incorrect temperature or mode settings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power before cleaning coils or filters.

Steps:

  • Verify settings: Ensure the unit is in Cool mode, set temperature at least 3–5°C below room temperature, and fan speed is not on the lowest setting.
  • Clean filters: Remove and wash filters, dry completely, and reinstall.
  • Clean indoor coil: Gently brush off dust from the evaporator fins. Use a non‑rinse coil cleaner if heavily soiled.
  • Clean outdoor unit: Remove debris from around the outdoor unit and clean the condenser coil fins with low‑pressure water.
  • Check doors/windows: Close doors and windows in the conditioned space and reduce heat sources (sunlight, ovens, etc.).

If cooling is still weak: A technician should check refrigerant charge, compressor performance, and system pressures.
