Unit frequently turns on and off (short cycling)

Safety first: Turn OFF power before moving sensors or opening covers.

Steps:

• Check sensor location: Ensure the indoor unit is not installed where the sensor is directly in the cold air stream or near heat sources.
• Improve airflow: Remove obstructions near the indoor unit so room air mixes properly.
• Adjust setpoint: Slightly increase the cooling set temperature to reduce cycling.

If short cycling is severe: A technician should check the room sensor and system sizing; in some cases, relocation or different control strategy is needed.
