Possible Causes
Oversized unit for room, Thermistor located in poor airflow, Dirty filter causing rapid temperature swings, Control board logic issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Steps:
- Check filter and airflow: Clean filters and ensure vents are not blocked. Good airflow stabilizes temperature sensing.
- Thermistor placement: Verify that the room sensor is not directly in the cold air stream from the outlet. If it is, gently reposition it closer to the return air path.
- Set reasonable temperature: Avoid setting the temperature extremely low; use a moderate setpoint to reduce cycling.
- Room size: If the unit is significantly oversized for the room, some cycling is unavoidable. Consider using a lower fan speed or relocating the unit.
- Control board: Persistent erratic cycling may indicate a faulty control board, which may need replacement.
