Check fan operation: Verify that all fans run continuously while the compressor is on. Replace any fan motor that stops intermittently.
Improve ventilation: For portable units, ensure the exhaust hose is short and straight and that the exhaust outlet is not confined.
Ambient conditions: Avoid operating the unit in spaces hotter than its rated maximum temperature.
Professional service: Persistent thermal trips may indicate a failing compressor or incorrect refrigerant charge; have a technician evaluate.

Unit shuts off after a few minutes and will not restart until some time has passed.
