Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain channel, Unit not installed level (tilting inward), Cracked drain pan, Blocked rear drain hole
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before tilting or removing covers. Be prepared for water spillage.
Steps:
- Check installation angle: For window units, ensure the unit is slightly tilted downward toward the outside so water drains outdoors, not indoors.
- Clear drain channels: Remove the front cover and inspect the condensate tray under the evaporator. Use a small brush or pipe cleaner to clear slime, algae, or debris from drain channels and holes.
- Inspect rear drain: On some Hotpoint models, a rear drain plug or hole allows excess water to escape. Ensure it is not blocked.
- Check drain pan: Inspect the plastic or metal drain pan for cracks or rust holes. Replace the drain pan / base pan if damaged.
Test: After cleaning and leveling, run the unit and monitor for leaks.
