Possible Causes
Failed indoor fan motor with feedback sensor, Loose fan motor connector on PCB, Faulty IR receiver on display board, Main PCB logic fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. The fan blades can start unexpectedly if power is applied during testing.
Steps to address E7 (fan-related models):
- 1. Check fan operation: With covers in place, briefly power the unit and change fan speeds. If the fan does not spin or only jerks, suspect the fan motor or capacitor.
- 2. Access fan motor: Remove the front panel and any internal covers to expose the indoor blower wheel and motor. On Insignia window units, the motor is mounted between the indoor and outdoor fans.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Verify the fan motor plug is fully seated on the main PCB. Look for damaged or pinched wires.
- 4. Spin test: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or seized, the motor or bearings are failing and should be replaced.
- 5. Replace fan motor if needed: Remove the blower wheel, disconnect wiring, and install an OEM Insignia indoor fan motor. Ensure correct orientation and secure all mounting screws.
Steps to address E7 (remote/receiver-related models):
- 1. Test remote: Replace remote batteries and verify the remote emits IR using a smartphone camera (you should see a flashing light at the remote tip when pressing buttons).
- 2. Inspect IR receiver: Remove the front bezel and locate the small IR receiver on the display board. Ensure the window is clean and not blocked.
- 3. Replace display board: If the remote works but the unit does not respond and E7 persists, replace the display/receiver board with the correct Insignia part.
