E9
Insignia
Full Condensate Tank / Water Level Sensor Fault
E9 appears on the display; unit may stop and beep; some portable Insignia models may also show a water full icon.

Possible Causes
Full internal condensate tank (portable units), Stuck or failed float switch, Blocked condensate drain, Faulty water level sensor wiring or main PCB input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the unit off and unplug it before draining water. Water may spill when moving the unit.
Steps to address E9:
- 1. Drain the tank: On portable Insignia ACs, locate the lower drain plug at the back. Place a shallow pan or tray under the drain, remove the plug, and allow all water to drain out. Reinstall the plug securely.
- 2. Check float switch: Remove the rear panel to access the internal condensate tank and float assembly. Ensure the float moves freely up and down and is not stuck by dirt or scale.
- 3. Clean the tank: Wipe out any slime, mold, or debris from the tank that could interfere with the float. Use a mild bleach solution if needed, then rinse and dry.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Follow the float switch or water level sensor wires to the main PCB. Confirm the connector is tight and wires are not damaged.
- 5. Test float switch (for advanced DIYers): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the float switch and check continuity with a multimeter while moving the float. It should change state (open/close) as the float moves. Replace the float switch if it does not operate correctly.
- 6. Reset and test: Reassemble the unit, plug it in, and power on. If E9 persists with an empty tank and a good float switch, the main PCB input may be faulty and require replacement.
