Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor, Loose sensor connector on PCB, Sensor shorted by moisture, Main PCB sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.
Steps to address F1:
- 1. Locate ambient sensor: On some Insignia models, the ambient sensor is near the air intake grille or behind the front panel, separate from the evaporator sensor.
- 2. Inspect sensor and wiring: Ensure the sensor is not touching cold metal surfaces and is positioned in the airflow. Check for damaged insulation or corroded connectors.
- 3. Test resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to manufacturer specifications or to another identical sensor if present.
- 4. Replace sensor: If readings are open/shorted or far out of range, install a new Insignia ambient temperature sensor. Route wires as originally installed.
- 5. PCB evaluation: If a new sensor does not clear F1, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
