Possible Causes
Tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse, Faulty Insignia power cord or plug, Failed main control board, Open internal thermal fuse on transformer or PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Before opening the unit, unplug it and verify the outlet is not live with a tester.
Steps to restore power:
- 1. Check outlet and breaker: Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet to confirm power. Reset any tripped breaker or replace a blown house fuse.
- 2. Inspect power cord: Examine the Insignia AC power cord for cuts, burns, or a loose plug. If damaged, replace the entire cord set; do not attempt to tape or splice it.
- 3. Test GFCI (if equipped): Some cords have a resettable safety plug. Press the RESET button firmly and see if power returns.
- 4. Access control box: Remove the front panel and metal cover over the control area. Look for an internal fuse on the PCB. If blown, replace only with the same rating and investigate for shorts.
- 5. Board inspection: Check the main PCB for burn marks or swollen components. A burned board should be replaced with an OEM Insignia control board.
- 6. If still dead: If the outlet and cord are good and the board shows no obvious damage, the internal transformer or thermal fuse may be open. Board replacement or professional diagnosis is recommended.
