Possible Causes
Failed condenser fan motor, Faulty fan capacitor (shared or separate), Loose or burned fan wiring, Defective main control board fan output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to spin the fan with power applied.
Steps:
- 1. Visual check: With the unit briefly powered (covers in place), confirm that the outdoor fan does not run while the compressor is on.
- 2. Spin test: Unplug the unit, then spin the fan blade by hand. If it is stiff or seized, the motor is bad and must be replaced.
- 3. Inspect wiring and capacitor: Check the fan motor wires and any associated capacitor. Replace the capacitor if bulged or leaking.
- 4. Replace fan motor: Remove the fan blade, unbolt the motor, and install a new Insignia condenser fan motor. Reinstall the blade and ensure correct rotation direction.
- 5. Board output: If the motor and capacitor are good but the fan never receives power, the main PCB may have a failed fan relay or triac and should be replaced.
