Possible Causes

Open or shorted room temperature sensor, Loose sensor connection at indoor control board, Damaged indoor control board thermistor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the indoor unit at the breaker before removing any panels.

  • Step 1 – Reset: Turn off power for 2–3 minutes, then restore power and see if E2 clears.
  • Step 2 – Locate room sensor: On ductless or packaged Keeprite units, the room thermistor is usually behind the front grille or near the return air area. On split systems, it may be mounted near the indoor coil or on the control board harness.
  • Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Check the sensor plug and wiring harness for loose connections or damage. Reseat the connector firmly on the control board.
  • Step 4 – Test sensor (if you have a meter): With power off, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to Keeprite service data (typically 5–20 kΩ depending on temperature). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Step 5 – Replace sensor: If the sensor is out of spec or physically damaged, replace it with the correct Keeprite room temperature sensor/thermistor. Secure it in the original location and reconnect.
  • Step 6 – Control board check: If a known-good sensor still gives E2, the indoor control board thermistor circuit may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
