Possible Causes

Blocked condenser coil, failed outdoor fan motor, overcharged refrigerant, high ambient temperature with poor ventilation, faulty high-pressure switch (if equipped)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before working on the outdoor unit. Do not open the sealed refrigerant system yourself.

Steps:

  • Check airflow: Ensure there is at least 30–60 cm clearance around the outdoor Kelvinator condenser. Remove any obstructions (plants, debris, covers).
  • Clean condenser coil: Remove the outdoor unit top grille if accessible. Use a soft brush or low-pressure water spray from inside out to clean dirt from the condenser fins. Avoid bending fins.
  • Verify outdoor fan operation: Restore power and briefly run the unit. Confirm the outdoor fan starts and runs at normal speed. If the fan does not run or is very slow, the fan motor or capacitor may be faulty.
  • Inspect fan capacitor (if external): Some Kelvinator models use a separate capacitor. Look for bulging or leaking. Replace with the same µF rating if defective.
  • Check for recirculation: Ensure hot discharge air is not recirculating back into the condenser due to enclosure or obstacles.
  • Technician tasks: If E4 persists, a technician should check refrigerant charge, high-pressure switch, and compressor current draw.

Warning: Do not attempt to release or add refrigerant without proper certification and tools.
