Possible Causes
Seized indoor cross-flow fan, failed indoor fan motor, blocked blower wheel, faulty fan capacitor (on non-DC models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before opening the indoor unit.
Steps:
- Check for obstructions: Remove the front panel and filters. Inspect the cross-flow blower wheel for foreign objects (plastic, insulation, insects) preventing rotation.
- Spin test: Gently rotate the blower by hand. It should spin freely without grinding. If stiff, the motor bearings may be failing.
- Inspect fan motor wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is fully seated on the indoor PCB and wires are not damaged.
- Capacitor check (AC motor types): If your Kelvinator model uses a separate fan capacitor, inspect it for bulging or leakage and replace with the same rating if suspect.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor is noisy, overheats, or fails to start even with a good capacitor, replace the indoor fan motor assembly.
Note: Removing the blower wheel and motor can be intricate; consider a technician if you are not experienced with disassembly.
