Possible Causes
Failed discharge thermistor on compressor outlet, sensor detached from pipe, damaged wiring, outdoor PCB sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and wait for components to cool before touching the outdoor unit piping.
Steps:
- Locate discharge sensor: Find the thermistor attached to the compressor discharge pipe (hot gas line) inside the outdoor unit.
- Check attachment: Ensure it is firmly clamped and insulated as originally installed.
- Inspect wiring: Look for heat damage or brittle insulation near the hot pipe.
- Test and replace: Measure resistance at ambient temperature (with unit off and cooled). Replace the sensor if readings are abnormal.
