Possible Causes

Faulty indoor fan motor feedback (for DC motors), failed mode control relay on PCB, wiring harness issue between fan and board, defective main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power. Moving fan blades and live terminals can cause injury or shock.

Steps:

  • Check fan operation: With the grille removed, spin the indoor fan wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without binding or scraping.
  • Inspect wiring: Trace the fan motor wires to the control board. Look for loose connectors, burnt plugs, or damaged insulation. Reseat all connectors.
  • Test motor (if AC type): Measure motor winding resistance and compare to service specs. An open winding indicates a bad motor.
  • Check DC fan feedback (if applicable): Some Keystone models use DC motors with feedback wires. Ensure all wires are intact and properly seated.
  • Board inspection: Look for burnt or cracked solder joints at the fan relay or driver circuit on the main PCB.
  • Replace parts: If the motor is seized or windings are open, replace the indoor fan motor assembly. If the motor tests good but E7 persists, replace the main control board.
