Possible Causes

Seized indoor fan motor, failed fan capacitor (if separate), broken fan wheel, faulty fan relay or triac on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp metal edges and fragile fan blades.

Steps:

  • Check for obstruction: Remove the front grille and look for objects or ice blocking the blower wheel. Clear any obstructions and thaw ice.
  • Spin test: Try spinning the blower wheel by hand. If it is stiff or seized, the motor bearings may have failed and the motor should be replaced.
  • Capacitor test: If the motor is an AC type with a separate capacitor, test and replace the capacitor if out of spec.
  • Voltage check (advanced): With proper safety and tools, verify that the control board is sending power to the fan motor when fan is commanded on. If not, the board or relay is likely faulty.
  • Replace motor: Install a Keystone-compatible indoor fan motor and re-balance or replace the blower wheel if cracked.
