Possible Causes

Blocked condenser airflow, dirty condenser coil, failed condenser fan motor, high ambient temperature beyond spec, low refrigerant causing overheating, faulty high-temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before working near the condenser or compressor.

Steps:

  • Improve ventilation: Ensure the hot air exhaust hose (portable) is not kinked and is as short and straight as possible. For split units, clear any obstructions around the outdoor unit.
  • Clean condenser: Remove rear or side panels to access the condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the fins. Do not bend fins.
  • Check condenser fan: Confirm the outdoor or rear fan runs at full speed when cooling. If it does not start or is slow, inspect and replace the condenser fan motor or its capacitor.
  • Ambient conditions: Avoid placing the unit in direct sun or in confined spaces. Ensure room and outdoor temperatures are within Klarstein’s operating range.
  • Sensor check: If accessible, verify the condenser temperature sensor is properly attached to the coil and wiring is intact.

If E8 recurs after cleaning and fan repair, the refrigerant system may be out of specification and must be checked by a licensed technician.
