Possible Causes
Failed outdoor fan motor, seized fan bearings, blocked fan blades, faulty fan capacitor, defective outdoor PCB fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power at the breaker before opening the outdoor unit.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Check that the fan blades are intact and free of debris (leaves, plastic, etc.). Remove any obstructions.
- Spin test: Rotate the fan by hand. It should move freely. If stiff or noisy, the motor is likely failing.
- Capacitor check: If the motor hums but does not start, test the outdoor fan capacitor and replace if out of spec.
- Wiring: Inspect the motor harness and connector to the outdoor PCB. Repair any damaged wires.
- Motor replacement: Replace the outdoor fan motor with a Klarstein-compatible unit if it fails to run with correct voltage and a good capacitor.
If F4 remains after motor and capacitor replacement, the outdoor PCB fan driver is likely defective.
