Klarstein air conditioner powers on but compressor never starts; only fan runs and no cooling occurs.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: High voltage present. Unplug the unit before accessing internal components.
Steps:
- Verify mode: Ensure the unit is in Cool mode, not Fan or Dry, and that the set temperature is lower than room temperature.
- Delay timer: Many Klarstein units have a 3–5 minute compressor delay. Wait several minutes after turning on cooling to see if the compressor starts.
- Listen for sounds: A brief hum followed by a click may indicate a hard-starting compressor or bad capacitor.
- Check capacitor: Access the compressor compartment, locate the start/run capacitor, discharge it safely, and test capacitance. Replace with a Klarstein-specified capacitor if out of tolerance or bulging.
- Relay/PCB: Inspect the compressor relay on the PCB for burn marks. If defective, replace the main PCB.
If the compressor remains silent or trips breakers even with a new capacitor, the compressor itself may be faulty and requires a refrigeration technician.
