Possible Causes

Blocked or dirty outdoor condenser coil, Failed outdoor condenser fan motor, Overcharged refrigerant or non-condensables in system, High ambient temperature with restricted airflow around outdoor unit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the outdoor disconnect and main breaker before working on the outdoor unit.

  • Step 1 – Clear obstructions: Ensure at least 24–36 inches of clearance around the Klimaire outdoor unit. Remove leaves, debris, or objects blocking airflow.
  • Step 2 – Clean condenser coil: Remove the top grille (if design allows) and gently clean the condenser fins with a soft brush and low-pressure water from inside out. Do not bend fins.
  • Step 3 – Check outdoor fan operation: Restore power and run the unit. Confirm the outdoor fan starts immediately when the compressor runs. If the fan does not run or is very slow, the fan motor or its capacitor may be defective and should be replaced.
  • Step 4 – Ambient temperature and load: In extreme heat, reduce indoor load by closing blinds and doors. Ensure the unit is not installed in a confined space recirculating its own hot air.
  • Step 5 – Professional refrigerant check: If E3 recurs after cleaning and verifying fan operation, a technician should check system pressures for overcharge, non-condensables, or restriction in the refrigeration circuit.
