Possible Causes
Shorted or locked compressor, Failing compressor run capacitor (on non-inverter models), Short circuit in outdoor wiring or terminals, Blocked condenser coil causing high amp draw
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This fault involves high voltage and high current. Turn OFF all power and use extreme caution. Many Klimaire units are inverter-driven; only qualified personnel should test compressor circuits.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Check outdoor wiring for burnt insulation, loose connections, or signs of arcing at the terminal block.
- Step 2 – Clean condenser coil: Ensure the outdoor coil is clean and unobstructed to reduce compressor load.
- Step 3 – Check fan operation: Confirm the outdoor fan runs whenever the compressor is commanded on. A non-running fan can cause rapid overcurrent.
- Step 4 – Capacitor check (non-inverter only): If your Klimaire model uses a start/run capacitor, have it tested and replaced if out of spec.
- Step 5 – Professional compressor/board diagnosis: If E5 persists, a technician should measure compressor winding resistance, insulation, and current draw, and verify the outdoor inverter PCB is not shorted.
