Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain line, Blocked drain pan outlet, Faulty float switch in indoor unit, Improper indoor unit leveling causing poor drainage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before working near water and electrical components.
- Step 1 – Check for water leakage: Inspect around the indoor unit for water dripping or stains. Remove the front cover to view the drain pan.
- Step 2 – Clear drain line: Locate the condensate drain line exiting the indoor unit. Use a wet/dry vacuum at the drain outlet outside to suck out clogs. Alternatively, blow low-pressure air from the indoor side.
- Step 3 – Clean drain pan: Carefully clean the drain pan of slime, algae, and debris. Ensure the drain outlet is fully open.
- Step 4 – Check unit level: Use a level to confirm the indoor unit is slightly pitched toward the drain side. Adjust mounting if necessary.
- Step 5 – Inspect float switch: If equipped, locate the float switch in the drain pan. Ensure it moves freely and is not stuck in the up position. Replace the float switch if defective.
- Step 6 – Reset: After clearing the drain and ensuring the pan is dry, restore power and test. E9 should clear if the overflow condition is resolved.
