Possible Causes
Outdoor unit in defrost cycle, Low outdoor temperature requiring compressor preheat, Normal heat pump operation in cold weather
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: H1 on many Klimaire heat pump models indicates a normal preheating or defrost operation, not a failure.
- Step 1 – Wait for cycle completion: Allow 5–15 minutes for the unit to complete preheating or defrost. Heating will resume automatically.
- Step 2 – Check outdoor unit: Confirm the outdoor unit is running and defrosting (steam may be visible; this is normal).
- Step 3 – Ensure coil is clean: A dirty outdoor coil can prolong defrost cycles. Clean the coil if needed.
- Step 4 – If H1 never clears: If H1 remains indefinitely and no heating occurs, there may be a sensor or control issue. Have a technician check the defrost sensor and outdoor PCB.
