Possible Causes

Failed outdoor fan motor, Faulty fan capacitor (on PSC motors), Loose wiring to fan motor, Defective outdoor PCB fan relay or driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the disconnect before touching the outdoor unit.

  • Step 1 – Visual check: Confirm the compressor is running (vibration and sound) while the fan is stationary.
  • Step 2 – Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor wires and connectors for burns or looseness.
  • Step 3 – Capacitor test (if equipped): On non-inverter models with a separate fan capacitor, have it tested and replace if out of spec.
  • Step 4 – Motor replacement: If the motor hums but will not start, or has seized bearings, replace the outdoor fan motor with the correct Klimaire part.
  • Step 5 – PCB check: If the motor and capacitor are good, a technician should test the outdoor PCB fan output.
