Possible Causes

Evaporator thermistor out of range, sensor not in correct position on coil, wiring resistance causing incorrect readings, defective control board input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the evaporator coil.

Steps to troubleshoot F2:

  • 1. Access evaporator: Remove the front cover to expose the indoor coil.
  • 2. Verify sensor placement: Ensure the evaporator thermistor is firmly clipped to the coil tubing where the manufacturer placed it, not hanging loose.
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Check for splices, corrosion, or damage along the sensor leads. Reseat the connector at the control board.
  • 4. Compare resistance: If possible, compare the evaporator sensor resistance to a known-good sensor at the same temperature.
  • 5. Replace sensor: Install a new Koldfront evaporator thermistor if readings are out of spec or F2 persists.
  • 6. Control board: If a new sensor does not clear F2, the control board’s sensor circuit is likely faulty and needs replacement.
