Possible Causes
Loose mounting screws, fan blade out of balance, unit not level, loose front grille or chassis in sleeve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the unit before tightening screws or touching moving parts.
Steps to reduce noise:
- 1. Level the unit: Use a level to ensure the unit is properly supported and not twisted in the window or wall sleeve.
- 2. Tighten screws: Check and tighten all accessible mounting screws on the front grille, side panels, and chassis.
- 3. Inspect fan blades: Remove covers to access the indoor and outdoor fan blades. Look for bent blades or debris stuck in the fan. Straighten minor bends carefully and remove debris.
- 4. Add padding: For through-the-wall units, ensure the chassis fits snugly in the sleeve. Use manufacturer-approved foam strips to reduce rattling.
- 5. Fan motor bearings: If noise persists and seems to come from the motor itself, the fan motor bearings may be worn and the motor should be replaced.
