Lennox communicating air conditioner shows E223 or similar high-pressure/overload error; outdoor unit starts then quickly shuts off, often on very hot days.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the outdoor disconnect before cleaning or working near the fan. Do not attempt to connect gauges or adjust refrigerant charge unless you are EPA-certified.
- 1. Clear airflow obstructions: Ensure at least 18–24 inches of clearance around the Lennox condenser. Remove leaves, grass clippings, and debris from the coil fins and top grille.
- 2. Clean condenser coil: Remove the top fan assembly if needed (after disconnecting power). Using a garden hose with moderate pressure, rinse the coil from the inside out to push dirt outward. Avoid bending fins. Let dry before restoring power.
- 3. Check condenser fan operation: Restore power and observe the outdoor unit. The fan should start immediately when the compressor starts. If the fan does not run or runs slowly, shut power off and have the fan motor and capacitor tested and replaced if needed.
- 4. Reset and monitor: After cleaning and verifying fan operation, reset the system and monitor operation. If the error returns, the system may be overcharged or have a restriction, which requires professional refrigerant diagnostics.
Important: High-pressure faults protect the compressor. Repeated resets without fixing the cause can permanently damage the compressor.
