Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before opening the outdoor unit. The discharge line can be extremely hot during operation.
Steps:
- Clean outdoor coil: Remove debris and wash the coil as described for CH24.
- Check outdoor fan: Confirm the fan runs whenever the compressor is on. If not, do not operate the unit until the fan motor is repaired or replaced.
- Inspect discharge thermistor: Locate the sensor clipped to the hot discharge line near the compressor. Ensure it is firmly attached and not damaged. Reseat its connector on the PCB.
- Power reset: After cleaning and checks, power the system off for 10 minutes, then on, and test.
Technician tasks: If CH26 persists, a technician should test the discharge thermistor, check refrigerant charge, and verify compressor operation. Overheating due to low charge or internal compressor issues requires professional service.
