Indoor unit blows air but there is no cooling (room temperature does not drop).
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before cleaning coils or filters. Do not attempt to handle refrigerant.
Steps:
- Set correct mode: Ensure the unit is set to COOL mode with a temperature at least 3–5°C (5–10°F) below room temperature.
- Clean filters: Remove and wash indoor air filters with mild soap and water. Dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean coils: If accessible, gently vacuum the indoor coil fins. Outside, clean the outdoor coil with a garden hose, avoiding high pressure.
- Check outdoor unit: When cooling is requested, verify that the outdoor fan and compressor are running. If the outdoor unit is silent, turn the system off and do not continue to run it.
- Observe for frost or ice: Frost on the indoor coil or suction line can indicate low refrigerant or airflow problems. Turn the unit off and allow it to thaw.
Technician required: If cleaning and basic checks do not restore cooling, a licensed technician must check refrigerant pressures, locate leaks, and test compressor and expansion valve operation.
