Possible Causes
Dirty outdoor condenser coil, Blocked condenser airflow (debris around unit), Overcharge of R‑410A refrigerant, Failed condenser fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the disconnect and breaker before working on the unit. High pressure conditions can be dangerous.
- Check outdoor airflow: Remove leaves, plastic bags, and debris from around the Luxaire condenser cabinet. Maintain at least 2–3 feet of clearance on all sides and 5 feet above.
- Clean the condenser coil: Remove the top grille (support the fan assembly without straining the wires). Use a soft brush to remove loose dirt from the Luxaire micro‑channel or fin‑and‑tube coil. Then gently rinse from inside out with low‑pressure water. Do not bend fins.
- Inspect condenser fan operation: Restore power and briefly run the unit. Confirm the condenser fan motor starts immediately and spins at normal speed. If it hums, runs slowly, or does not start, shut power off and plan to replace the condenser fan motor and capacitor.
- Check for refrigerant overcharge or restriction: If the coil is clean and airflow is good but E1 persists, a high head pressure condition may be due to overcharge or a restriction in the liquid line or TXV. This requires a licensed HVAC technician to connect gauges, verify subcooling, and correct the charge.
- Clear the code: After correcting airflow issues, power the system off for 5 minutes, then back on. Many Luxaire boards will clear E1 automatically if the fault is gone.
