Possible Causes
Dust on electric heat strips (if combined unit), Overheating blower motor, Loose electrical connections, Failing capacitor or contactor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you smell strong burning or see smoke, turn off power immediately and do not operate the unit.
- Initial dust burn‑off: A mild burning smell at first use of the season can be normal as dust burns off heat strips. It should dissipate within an hour.
- Inspect electrical compartment: With power off, open the Luxaire air handler and condenser electrical panels. Look for burnt wires, melted insulation, or scorched components.
- Tighten connections: Carefully tighten screw terminals on contactors, relays, and terminal blocks.
- Replace burnt parts: Any visibly damaged contactor, capacitor, or wiring should be replaced. If unsure, call a technician.
