Possible Causes

Dirty evaporator coil, Dirty condenser coil, Low refrigerant charge, Undersized Luxaire system for home load

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power before cleaning coils or opening panels.

  • Check thermostat settings: Ensure the thermostat is set to COOL and the temperature is at least 3–5°F below room temperature. Verify fan is set to AUTO.
  • Replace air filter: Install a clean filter to restore proper airflow.
  • Clean indoor coil (accessible units): Remove the coil access panel. Use a soft brush and a no‑rinse evaporator coil cleaner approved for aluminum/copper coils. Avoid bending fins.
  • Clean outdoor coil: As described earlier, rinse the Luxaire condenser coil from inside out with low‑pressure water.
  • Measure temperature drop: After 15–20 minutes of operation, measure the temperature at a return grille and a nearby supply register. A typical Luxaire system should show about 16–22°F drop. If much lower or higher, call a technician to check refrigerant charge and system sizing.
