Possible Causes
Clogged primary condensate drain line, Algae buildup in drain trap, Cracked or rusted drain pan, Improper drain line slope
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the air handler to avoid electrical hazards near water.
- Locate drain line: Find the PVC drain exiting the Luxaire air handler or coil pan.
- Clear clog: Use a wet/dry vacuum at the outside drain termination to suck out sludge and debris. Alternatively, use a small brush or flexible line cleaner at the access tee.
- Clean trap: Open the cleanout and flush the trap with a mixture of warm water and a small amount of mild detergent or vinegar. Do not use strong acids or bases.
- Inspect pan: If leaks persist, inspect the primary and secondary drain pans for cracks or rust. Replace damaged pans and ensure proper slope.
- Install or check float switch: A condensate safety switch on the Luxaire unit can prevent future overflow by shutting the system off when the pan fills.
