Unit stops and displays E8; may be accompanied by very low or no airflow from indoor unit
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. The indoor fan motor is powered by high voltage; do not touch connectors with power on.
Steps to check:
- 1. Inspect air outlet: Remove any visible obstructions (plastic bags, foreign objects) from the air outlet and louvers.
- 2. Check blower wheel rotation: Open the front panel and filter. Gently rotate the blower wheel by hand (if accessible). It should spin freely without scraping. If it is jammed by debris, carefully remove the obstruction.
- 3. Check fan motor connector: Remove the indoor unit cover to access the fan motor connector on the PCB. With power OFF, ensure the connector is fully seated and not burnt.
- 4. Restart test: Restore power and run the unit. If the fan attempts to start then stops and E8 reappears, the motor or driver circuit is likely faulty.
When to call a technician: Replacing the indoor DC fan motor or PCB requires disassembly and wiring work. Have a technician test the motor and driver voltage and replace the defective part.
