Remote Control or IR Receiver Failure
Remote control does not operate the indoor unit
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dead remote batteries, Obstructed IR receiver window, Faulty remote control, Faulty IR receiver board on indoor unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No high-voltage work is required for basic checks.
Steps to check:
- 1. Replace batteries: Install fresh, correctly oriented batteries in the remote.
- 2. Check IR transmission: Point the remote at a smartphone camera and press a button; you should see a flashing light on the remote's IR LED through the camera.
- 3. Clear line of sight: Ensure there is no obstruction between the remote and the indoor unit's IR receiver window.
- 4. Try manual controls: Use the ON/OFF button on the indoor unit (if present). If manual control works but remote does not, the remote or IR receiver is suspect.
When to call a technician: If a new remote does not solve the issue, the IR receiver board or indoor PCB may need replacement.
