Strong musty or moldy smell from indoor unit when it starts

Safety first: Turn off power before cleaning. Wear gloves and eye protection when using coil cleaners.

Steps:

• Clean filters: Wash filters thoroughly and allow them to dry.
• Clean coil and drain pan: Use an approved foaming coil cleaner for air conditioners. Apply to the evaporator coil and drain pan, following product instructions.
• Clear drain: Ensure the drain line is clear so cleaning solution and condensate can drain away.
• Use dry mode: After cleaning, run the unit in Fan or Dry mode for 30–60 minutes to dry the coil and reduce future mold growth.
