Possible Causes
Failed fan capacitor (shared with compressor on some models), seized fan motor bearings, obstructed blower wheel, faulty fan winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing electrical components.
Steps:
- Check for obstructions: Remove front cover and ensure nothing is blocking the blower wheel.
- Spin by hand: If the blower is stiff or does not spin freely, the indoor fan motor bearings may be seized; replace the motor.
- Test capacitor: Locate the fan run capacitor (may be combined with compressor capacitor). Discharge and test capacitance. Replace if out of spec.
- Motor winding test: Measure resistance across motor leads. Open windings indicate a failed motor that must be replaced.
