Possible Causes
Faulty indoor ambient thermistor, sensor shorted by moisture, wiring harness damage, control board input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing covers.
Steps:
- Dry the unit: If the unit has been exposed to high humidity or water, allow it to dry completely. Moisture on the sensor can cause false readings.
- Locate ambient sensor: On many NewAir models, this sensor is behind the front grille near the air intake. Remove the filter and front panel to access.
- Inspect and clean: Gently clean dust from the sensor with a soft brush. Check that the sensor is not touching metal surfaces that could skew readings.
- Test resistance: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to expected NTC values. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Replace sensor: Install a new indoor ambient temperature sensor if needed, routing the wire away from fan blades and sharp edges.
- Control board: If a new sensor does not clear F1, the main control PCB may be defective.
