Possible Causes
Shorted compressor, shorted inverter IPM module, wiring short between inverter and compressor, overheating heat sink
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Inverter circuits carry dangerous voltages even after power is removed; allow time for capacitors to discharge and do not touch heat sinks or power devices without proper training.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Access the inverter PCB (often mounted near the compressor). Look for burn marks, cracked components, or melted wiring.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness between the inverter board and compressor terminals for damage or shorts to chassis.
- Compressor test: With power disconnected, measure resistance between compressor terminals and from each terminal to ground. Any continuity to ground indicates a shorted compressor.
- Replace components: If the compressor is shorted, the sealed system must be serviced by a licensed technician. If the compressor tests good but the inverter board is visibly damaged or H5 persists, replace the inverter PCB.
