Possible Causes

Locked or mechanically tight compressor, Faulty compressor run capacitor (on portable/monobloc units), Shorted compressor windings, Defective inverter or power module on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Danger: High voltage present. Do not work on live circuits. If you are not experienced with electrical testing, call a professional.

  • Basic reset: Turn the unit off and unplug it for 10–15 minutes. Restore power and test. If E5 appears immediately, proceed with checks.
  • Check supply voltage: Ensure the outlet or dedicated circuit provides stable voltage within the range specified on the Olimpia Splendid rating plate. Low voltage can cause overcurrent trips.
  • Inspect wiring to compressor: With power off and covers removed, check the compressor terminal cover and wiring harness for burn marks, loose spade connectors, or melted insulation.
  • Test run capacitor (if equipped): On many Olimpia Splendid portable units, a run capacitor assists compressor start. Discharge the capacitor safely, then measure capacitance with a meter. Replace if more than ±10% out of rating.
  • Check for mechanical lock: A very hot, humming compressor that trips quickly may be seized. This requires compressor replacement, which must be done by an F-gas certified technician.
  • Inverter models: If your Olimpia Splendid unit uses an inverter compressor, E5 can indicate a power module fault. Visual inspection for burnt components is possible, but replacement of the inverter PCB should be left to a professional.
