Possible Causes

Open or shorted compressor discharge thermistor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty outdoor PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate power at the outdoor disconnect or breaker. Wait several minutes for capacitors to discharge.

Steps to check:

  • 1. Access outdoor unit: Remove the top or side service panel to expose the compressor and wiring harness.
  • 2. Locate discharge thermistor: Find the sensor clipped or strapped to the compressor discharge pipe or compressor shell. Follow its wires back to the outdoor PCB.
  • 3. Inspect harness and connector: Look for cuts, rodent damage, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
  • 4. Measure resistance: With the sensor unplugged and power OFF, measure its resistance and compare to Panasonic thermistor charts. An open circuit or near-zero ohms indicates failure.
  • 5. Replace sensor if faulty: Install a genuine Panasonic compressor temperature sensor, secure it firmly to the pipe or shell, and ensure good thermal contact.

If the sensor tests good but H15 remains, the outdoor PCB may have a defective sensor input and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
