Possible Causes
Broken Y control wire between air handler and condenser, Tripped float switch from condensate backup, Blown low-voltage fuse on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the indoor unit before working on low-voltage wiring.
- 1. Check condensate safety switch: Look for a float switch on the drain pan or drain line. If the pan is full of water, clear the drain and reset the float.
- 2. Inspect low-voltage fuse: Replace a blown 3–5A fuse on the indoor control board if present.
- 3. Verify Y signal at condenser: With a multimeter (advanced DIY), check for 24V between Y and C at the outdoor unit when cooling is called. If no voltage, the issue is in the thermostat or wiring.
- 4. Repair wiring: Repair or replace damaged thermostat cable between indoor and outdoor units.
