Possible Causes

Indoor fan motor overcurrent, Blocked return air or closed doors, Dirty evaporator coil causing high static pressure, Faulty indoor fan speed control circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before removing indoor covers. Avoid touching the fan wheel while it is spinning.

Steps to try:

  • Restore airflow: Open doors and vents in the conditioned space. Ensure nothing is blocking the return air path to the indoor unit.
  • Clean filters and coil: Remove and wash filters. Inspect and clean the evaporator coil and blower wheel if heavily soiled.
  • Check fan rotation: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without scraping. If stiff or noisy, the fan motor bearings may be failing.
  • Test different fan speeds: Power on and cycle through fan speeds. If E8 appears only at high speed, the motor or control circuit may be overloaded.

When to call a pro: If cleaning and airflow corrections do not resolve E8, the indoor fan motor or indoor PCB may need replacement.
