Musty or moldy smell from the air conditioner

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Use appropriate protective gear (gloves, mask) when cleaning mold.

• Step 1 – Clean filter:
  • Wash or replace the air filter.
• Step 2 – Clean evaporator coil:
  • Access the evaporator coil and spray with a non-rinse foaming coil cleaner suitable for AC units.
  • Allow the cleaner to work and drain into the pan.
• Step 3 – Disinfect drain pan:
  • Wipe the condensate pan with a mild bleach solution (if compatible with materials) or an AC-safe disinfectant.
• Step 4 – Run in fan mode:
  • After cleaning, run the unit in FAN-only mode for 30–60 minutes to dry the coil.
