Possible Causes
Dirty air filter, Low fan speed or failing fan motor, Low refrigerant, Thermostat set too low
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the unit. Allow ice to melt before working on the coil.
- Step 1 – Thaw the unit:
- Leave the unit off for several hours or run in FAN-only mode to melt ice.
- Step 2 – Restore airflow:
- Clean the air filter and evaporator coil.
- Ensure the indoor fan runs at normal speed; replace the Indoor Fan Motor if weak.
- Step 3 – Adjust settings:
- Avoid setting the thermostat extremely low in very humid conditions.
If icing recurs quickly, a refrigerant or sensor issue may be present and should be checked by a technician.
