Possible Causes

Failed DC outdoor fan motor, Obstructed fan blade, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan speed feedback circuit on outdoor PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the disconnect and breaker. Ensure the fan has stopped before touching.

  • Inspect fan blade: Remove the top grille if needed and check for sticks, leaves, or ice blocking the fan. Clear any obstructions.
  • Spin test: Rotate the fan blade by hand. It should move freely without grinding. If stiff, the motor bearings may be failing.
  • Check wiring: Reseat the fan motor connector on the outdoor PCB. Look for burnt pins or melted plastic.
  • Replace motor if needed: If the fan does not start or runs erratically despite good wiring, replace the outdoor fan motor with the correct Rheem part.

Warning: Do not bend the fan blades. An unbalanced fan can damage the motor and cause vibration.
